Are you a leader looking to do what’s best for your team but not sure how? Check out this blog to know why it’s important to help your team members grow.

Being a leader is no easy feat.

Whether you are a leader of a small team or lead the whole workforce, leadership comes with a lot of responsibilities. And the most important of them is ensuring the growth of the team. Specifically, growth that brings the whole team closer to their goal.

But why is this growth so crucial? Because the best and quickest way to succeed is to help others succeed, as Napoleon Hill says. When you lift each member of the team up, the whole team rises. After all, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link! So, as an effective leader, it is up to you to transform each member of your team into a veritable Super Champion.

Super Champions are motivated and invested people who consistently give their best and constantly try to improve. When you do the hard work and lead your team to become Super Champions, your team is sure to go places.

So how can you effectuate this transformation in your team? Here are 3 simple steps you can follow to grow your Super Champions.

1. Find Your Purpose

A rudderless ship never reaches its destination. Similarly, a team that does not have a clear purpose can never succeed. It is your job as the leader to define your team’s purpose. It is the deciding factor on how your team is going to move forward. After all, you can’t lead your team if you don’t know where to lead them. Thus, finding the right direction becomes a critical task that requires vision.

The best way to discover the overall purpose of your team is to welcome inputs from your team members. This will give you an idea of what each team member’s personal goals are. You can use this data to align your team’s common goal with their individual goals as much as possible.

Such a show of inclusivity and trust not only makes you stand out as a leader but also motivates your team to readily take your goals into their stride.

2. Motivate the Team Towards “The Goal”

Once you’ve settled on the goal, the next step is to communicate it with your team efficiently. Remember, you should do so in a way that helps your team not only accept but welcome the goal.

This will only happen when they witness how committed you are to the goal and to your team members. Your commitment and passion are what will inspire and motivate them to adopt the common goal. This is how every leader in history has achieved their goals, even the ones as humongous as ending slavery, gaining independence and more.

Only when each team member embraces the common goal will they be willing to put in sincere efforts to move towards it. More importantly, they will be willing to work together, collaborating with each other, despite any differences that may arise in due course.

3. Rally Them to Be the Best

The third and final step in transforming your team into Super Champions is to encourage and support them to be the best in every way, day in and day out. This is what makes your team of Super Champions stand out from the crowd and take them closer to their goal. But there is no one-size-fits-all solution that you can implement overnight to make them the best. Each human being is different, and they have different needs to be met to be their absolute best.

The easiest way to find out how to help your team be the best is to simply ask them. When goal-oriented members give sincere suggestions and pain points, leaders can easily work out an optimal solution that helps the team be at their best. Not to mention, they also feel valued and heard.

It bears to keep in mind that this system is only effective when followed continually. People evolve, and so do their needs. So, you should have a system in place to assess your team’s evolving needs so that you can update your team strategies accordingly.

For example, in COVID times, when IT companies were working from home out of the blue, most companies evaluated their employees’ needs and provided funding for basic infrastructure like office chairs, desks, etc., to help them be their best. Periodic feedback surveys are a great way to stay connected with your team and infuse their input into management decisions.

The End Result

When you surround yourself with Super Champions and go-getters, your graph has got nowhere else to go but up. When you invest time and effort in transforming your team into Super Champions, it reflects on your team’s bottom line.

Only a Super Leader can lead a team of Super Champions successfully. So, when your team does finally achieve that goal, it will be a testament to your Super Leadership. Great leaders are made, not born. By knowing the way, showing the way, and going the way, you not only transform your team into Super Champions, but you too become a Super Leader.
